Food Likes

I love people cooking together. People showing that they love someone by making them food. The details that go into it - shopping for ingredients, the process of preparing food (peeling apples, chopping onions, tendering meat, carefully mandolin-ing potatoes, measuring out chocolate chips), the joy of eating it. I like cooking mistakes as well, & cooking mishaps being used as an excuse for hurt/comfort (burns and cuts and all those other wonderful ways you can damage yourself in the kitchen).

I really love the intimacy of food. Feeding someone from your fork or with your fingers, wiping a little bit of a mess off of their face, rubbing their belly if they’ve eaten too much. The emotional intimacy of letting someone know your favorite food, of making it with them to share them. The awkward hope of giving someone food as a gift and hoping they like it, the pride of knowing that you did a good job. Alternatively, something not coming out well, but the person being so touched they choke it down anyway, and then show them how to do better, or bring them their own cooking.

I adore when writers go into details about eating. The way tastes wash over your mouth, like flashes of light & color. The juiciness of fruit, the richness of dairy, the way well cooked meat feels between the teeth. I love the sensory details that go into cooking and baking as well - the scent of herbs when you crush them, or the feel of dough under your hands when you roll it out. I like the messiness of cooking, & how characters have to roll up their sleeves & wash their hands & really get into it. It’s always wonderful when you have characters teaching other characters how to do food related things, and maybe they’re not the best, but they both enjoy themselves & feel closer for it. Even the way you wash the dishes afterwards, and clean everything up and put it away.

I really, really love bread making. The metaphors about how yeast blooms (like a relationship!) and how much work goes into it, how it requires patience at the same time. I adore when characters experiment with bread making, when they fail and have to figure out what to do with the failures, when they succeed and share it with people they care about. I love bread making used as a bonding exercise as well - the cuteness of having to press close behind to show them how to knead dough, watching the bread rise.

Smut Likes:

Face touching/holding, hand touching/holding. Sucking on fingers, shoving fingers into mouths, palms against cheeks, tracing someone’s profile with the tip of a finger, thumbs pressed into dimples.

Focus on mouths - cunnilingus, sucking dick, sucking on toes, leaving hickeys. Biting, especially in unexpected places (faces, calves). Long, deep kisses, the kind of making out that leaves the head spinning.

Submission presented via food. Making their dominant a meal, or submitting to their dominant’s cooking. Being good by cleaning their plate, or getting to be fed directly from their dominant’s hands - or getting to feed their dominant with their hands. This canon is so full of metaphor & allegory. I’d love things that play with that. Whether it’s them sharing the apple, or just making an apple pie and lots of jokes about that. I love biblical (Old Testament/the Torah only, please) themes when it comes to food - the honey from the lion’s skull, Judith giving that one dude milk before she hammered the tent peg through his skull. One of the things I love about WKTD is the way it mixes up the mystical and the mundane. Maybe something pre-canon, about the Summer Scouts being too cheap to give them anything but knock off Kool Aid for Communion, or post canon where they learn all the different ways you can enjoy having a body that’s yours, including food.

I’d love anything with any of the ladies bonding over food. I can imagine Gwen trying to impress Martha or Tosh with some home cooking (even if she isn’t particularly good at it), or Martha appreciating the fact that someone’s made her dinner. I love the image of Tosh & Gwen getting to know each other a little better by going out to get coffee, or Tosh & Martha getting pizza together as they discuss some bit of alien culture late into the night.

I really like the idea of Suzie and Gwen together. Maybe an AU where Suzie didn’t kill herself, she just kept going, and Gwen tries to win her over with home cooking or fancy chocolate. Maybe Suzie and Gwen together during They Keep Killing Suzie, only Gwen doesn’t die. Or maybe something else, since they don’t interact much in canon, but the brief bits of them that we do see are… turbulent, to say the least.

I really love the idea of Sarah Jane trying to perform the “good mum” job of providing snacks or cooking in general for her son’s friends. Especially when said friends have a crush on her. I can imagine Maria choking down one of Sarah Jane’s not very good biscuits, or Rani trying to grin & bear her way through more burnt scrambled eggs. Alternately, one of the girls trying to woo Sarah Jane by way of baked goods or dinner or just chocolate that they “just happened” to remember was her favorite, from down the shop.

Alternately, Rani and Maria commiserate over crushing on Sarah Jane, or how hard it is to always be the one to save the universe. The two of them trying to get to know each other better by way of going to get bad pizza or greasy pub food, and they end up kissing in the alleyway while their mouths taste like beer and their fingers are still greasy from chips or mozzarella sticks.

Doctor Who

The Doctor has such an intense love for life, and I feel like that would extend to food. Maybe one of her companions end up getting sick of her living off of custard creams and make her a meal, or maybe she wants to impress someone by making them special food, or by taking them to a planet that specializes in something specific. I especially like the idea of Bill feeding her chips (although no jokes about “fatting” please), or Martha asking to go to one specific place they went to way back in the day. I also love the idea of Yaz cooking something for the Doctor, or maybe them going back to actually try some of Yaz’s dad’s food (and having to deal with the third degree from Najia).

The Doctor and River having history, and going out to dinner someplace. Maybe River is a surprisingly good cook, or maybe she can’t cook for love or money. Maybe the Doctor wants to do something nice for her wife, so they go to a nice little hole in the wall restaurant somewhere, or maybe the Doctor makes bread for River and they eat sandwiches on a beach somewhere, and watch the suns rise. I’m happy with almost anything with these two.

The Master and the Doctor bickering over what to have for dinner/lunch/breakfast is just endlessly hilarious to me, I won’t lie. The two of them bickering over the proper way to chop an onion, or whether one particular restaurant was found on this planet in that century or that planet in this century. I also love the idea of the Doctor feeding the Master, trying to win him over with food. The two of them not being able to stand each other, but still knowing the other one well enough to remember their favorite foods.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

This canon is rife with cannibalism, and I would love to see some kind of exploration of it. Maybe Lilith feeds Sabrina a bit of person and there’s a whole magical ritual to it, or maybe she gives Sabrina a sandwich with something in it that the rest of us shouldn’t eat. Maybe Sabrina wants to impress her favorite teacher (unaware that it’s Lilith) & makes her some kind of baked good with magic in it (I really love the idea of Hilda seeing Sabrina trying to bake for someone she has a crush on and “helping her along”, as it were). Or maybe something about the ritual of bread, and putting a piece of yourself in it, and serving it to someone else. Something where Lilith feeds Sabrina, or Sabrina feeds Lilith, and it’s dangerous and heady and intense, the way everything between those two seems to be.

I really love Grace connecting to her children via food. Diego coming home to eat her cooking (and because he's in love with her in ways he shouldn't be), Vanya connecting to Grace back when she was growing up as the lonely, "ordinary" one by helping her cook, or by getting special treats. Allison trying to show Grace just how "normal" she is

Vanya and Helen eating lunch together, Vanya trying to make friends (or feeling guilty about what happened in another dimension, if you wanna go down that route) with home cooking. Helen feeling guilty for being a bit of a jerk and making her food in turn.

Vanya and Allison being bad at being sisters, but trying. The two of them bonding over trying to replicate Grace's recipes, or just trying to cook. Allison trying to win Vanya over with fancy food and nice restaurants, or badly done homemade food (Allison doesn't strike me as the type who'd be very good at cooking, personally?). Alternately, Vanya learning how to cook and sharing it (awkwardly) with Allison as a bit of an "I'm sorry I slit your throat" kind of thing. Vanya coming back to herself after all of those years of being numbed by her medication, and Allison helping her explore that.
